Huge John Hughes fan. Thanks for finding all the weird science addresses and photo's. Looking at these photo's brought a lot memories back. I can still remember the first time I watched this movie. Again Thank you.
ReplyDeleteLong live the memory of John Hughes
god this is good isnt it
DeleteActually Wyatt's house is in Long Beach CA. It's down the block from Ferris Bueller's house, and it also was filmed as Donnie Darko's house. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Cerritos,_Long_Beach,_California
ReplyDeleteSorry, Wyatt's house is in Donnie Darko, but it was not Donnie's house.
DeleteThe house is called the Leonie Pray house. It has it's own Wikipedia page as it is a historic landmark in Long Beach.
ReplyDeleteThe Leonie Pray House may have been used for the interior filming, but 280 Cedar Avenue is absolutely correct for the exterior shots. I grew up just on the other side of the ravine behind that house and went by it every day on the bus to middle school. It was a sad day to see it torn down.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this info, so many people online think it's the house in Long Beach but it is clearly not if you have an eye for detail. Great movie, great house, John Hughes movies are the best!!
DeleteI'm not convinced that the interior shots are from the Leonie Pray House.
DeleteJeff is absolutely correct that the house was at 280 Cedar Ave. All of the interior scenes seem to match the exterior shape and attributes of the house. (Locations of the windows, etc).
When the crowd is outside (Party! Party!) you can see the interior doorway and closet behind Lisa, Gary, and Wyatt and they appear to match.
I watched Donnie Darko and paused the movie in several locations trying to find some resemblance to the Highland Park house, I can't find anything. The curved staircase isn't a match either. Windows along the landings are missing, the mill work and wainscoting are way off. (Unless I'm missing something here??)
I trust that others are correct about the address.. I do know that the Northbrook Court scenes were filmed earlier the same day (it was fun seeing that slurpee attack filmed Again and Again and Again) and as many teens as were able were bussed to a nearby location for the Party Party exterior shots - My 18 year old face is clearly visible up front.... but only the exterior ones. A few of us were also selected to make shadows on the Windows from the inside as establishing shots but John Hughes himself told us that the interiors would be filmed in LA...
DeleteOur family friends actually bought that house at 280 Cedar and tore it down circa 1993. I've only been inside the house that currently stands in its place.
DeleteWhere is the laser/popcorn set?
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame & sad so much of history, including Hollywood history does not exist anymore.
ReplyDeleteLoving this site it is Awesome to see all the rear places from such iconic films.
