the running in the park scene was at St Joseph's. the building they are leaning against was the front of the local bowling ally in Rensselaer. (the property of the college is next to the bowling ally) since then the ally flipped and the entrance is on the back side and a bank went in the front.
ReplyDeleteHi, thanks for the info. Could you be more exact? The bowling alley is surrounded by houses. Plus there is no park near by on that side of the street. Thanks
DeleteThe main building wasn't torn down, there was actually a fire in 1973 and it burnt down.
ReplyDeleteI was a student @ St Joseph ‘s when the fire occurred. There was a group of students who broke into G Halas’s office, which was located in the building that burnt to the ground the night of the fire, and saved most of Coach Halas’s memorabilia. There was talk of the students being charged with breaking and entering but that never materialized. The academic school year ended weeks early due to the fire.

About 41 minutes into the film, there's a scene which was filmed at Notre Dame Stadium during a Bears exhibition game there on August 28, 1971. I recognized the scoreboards and pressbox which were pretty much the same when I was a student there in the early 1980's.
ReplyDeleteI was a student at Notre Dame in 1970 - 1974. I noticed that it looked like ND Stadium too. (Missed the exhibition game, though. Back in those old days we didn't start classes until after Labor Day!)
DeleteMy father and I were at that exhibition game. We watched Gale Sayers on crutches watching game, as an actor on sidelines wearing number 40 was kneeling with water being poured on him as the cameras rolled. We discussed during whole game what in the world was going on. My dad, Jack, loved Gale Sayers.
ReplyDeleteYou’ve done a brilliant job with answering questions about this phenomenal film. It is just as relevant today as it was some fifty years ago.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
